The
festive decorations are up, the sun is out, school is almost out, and before we
know it, we’ll be completely immersed in the festive season. Whilst we look
forward to all the festivities and, for most people, the one chance we get to
kick back, relax, and enjoy the break, it’s important to keep safety front of mind.
Although
the statistics released by the SAPS & Stats SA in 2018 showed some
decreases in crime levels during the festive season, crime remains one
of the biggest concerns for several South Africans.
So,
we rounded up a couple of safety tips to help you stay alert this festive
season:
Vehicle
Going
shopping? Avoid car remote jamming. After locking the vehicle, pull the handle
to double-check that it is locked before walking away.
Home
If
you are looking to travel and your home will be left unoccupied, make sure your
home alarm system is working properly. If you don’t have an alarm system
installed, ensure that all security gates are locked, and all windows have
reliable barriers. And finally, leave a set of keys with either a neighbour, family
member or friend in case of an emergency.
Business
Whether
you will be closing shop completely, or will be operating with skeleton staff;
again, ensure all your security systems are working by testing these regularly.
From cameras to panic buttons, alarm systems and burglar proofing.
All Risk
Before
you head out, is your cellphone covered? What about your laptop or your favourite
jewerly and watches? If you’re going to be travelling or even heading to the
mall, make sure you have the right cover for your smaller items. Keep an eye on
your valuables, stay alert, and be incredible wary of your surroundings.

with all of that said, here’s to a happy and safe festive season. You deserve
it!
